Throughout the Washington metro area, screened porches have become very popular. In fact, some customers have told us they could not even live in a home without a screened porch! What could possibly make these rooms so special?There is one fundamental element to screened porches that sets them apart: As opposed to sunrooms, which are much more common in our area, these porches offer a truly outdoor living experience. Here, one can savor a passing breeze and enjoy the sounds of the local wildlife while being protected from the hot sun and the mosquitoes. Of course, Maryland summers are synonymous with heat and humidity. There are August afternoons when uncovered decks and patios are simply too hot to be useable. Surprisingly, our customers tell us there is almost never a day when it's too hot to enjoy their screened porch. You see, even the most tropical days can be delightful when you are sheltered from the blazing sun and comforted by an overhead ceiling fan. Rainy days are the best days of all. Because you are protected by generous roof overhangs and by the screens themselves, only the fiercest thunderstorms will drive you from your screened porch.  LandWorks has been building these rooms since our inception in 1991, and we have learned a great deal about what goes into the design and construction of the best projects. It starts with an understanding that porches are actually architectural additions. Not only must they be designed for appropriate size and scale, they must also complement the architecture of the home. They should appear to have been part of the home's original construction, and not as an unfortunate add-on. The best projects will resist the elements and will remain beautiful for decades to come.
